Coastal EngineeringEmergency ResponseCurrent weather patterns of increased storm activity in conjunction with sea-level rise are placing coastal properties and infrastructure at greater risk for potential catastrophic damage. Rapid and effective emergency response is vital to protecting homes as well as both public and private property from damage or destruction. CPE's experience with FEMA damage assessment requirements facilitates permitting and federal financial assistance. CPE provides rapid response assessments and designs erosion control structures that can be permitted in a timely manner and which meet state and federal guidelines. When constructed as an "engineered beach" with a long-term maintenance program, the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) views the nourishment projects as an integral part of local infrastructure. In the event of a catastrophic storm, engineered beaches are potentially eligible for federal funding assistance for restoration.
