Beach Nourishment
Coastal erosion in the United States, as well as many other countries in the world, results in significant loss of coastal property, infrastructure and beach habitats. A commitment of beach nourishment and periodic maintenance increases property values, provides storm protection for upland structures, restores the beach as an environmental asset and preserves the recreational area that represents a significant part of the economy of most coastal communities.
Beach nourishment projects rebuild the beach through direct placement of sand and have become the solution of choice for beachfront communities around the world. Beach nourishment is the preferred "soft" solution to erosion because it directly addresses the problem at hand and can often replace other "hard" alternatives such as coastal structures. To date, there are over 250 restored beaches nationwide, where over 500 million cubic yards of sand have been placed on eroded beaches over the last 50 years.
