Sand Search Investigations

CPE is the industry leader in identifying beach compatible sand sources. CPE utilizes geologic models, state of the art geophysical and geotechnical equipment to locate and delimit sand offshore sand deposits. CPE has located sand sources in Florida, New York, Louisiana, North Carolina and Massachusetts, as well as in the sand starved areas of the upper Texas coast. Our techniques are proven and efficient as we are able to modify field operations on the fly as data is collected and immediately analyzed. Millions of yards of beach compatible sand has been located and later dredged to restore America's beaches.

Our success in identifying beach compatible material is rooted in the systematic approach to marine sand searches has been developed over the years by the CPE Coastal Geology and Geomatics team (Finkl, Khalil and Andrews, 1997; Finkl, Andrews and Benedet, 2003; Finkl, Benedet and Andrews., 2005; Finkl and Khalil, 2005). In a comprehensive marine sediment search, CPE typically divides the investigation into three (3) sequential phases. This phased approach can be modified to meet the scope of the investigation and account for the level of work previously performed. Regardless of the phases executed during a sediment search, the CPE investigation sequencing is preserved in order to maintain efficiency to provide confident results. Our regional sand search approach is so successful that it has been incorporated into Louisiana's Office of Coastal Protection and Restoration (OCPR) "General Guidelines: Exploration for Offshore Sand Sources."
