Benthic Habitat Mapping and Classification

CPE’s GIS analysts create detailed, georeferenced, thematically accurate shallow-water benthic maps that enable resource managers to make informed decisions about the use and protection of the resources. The habitats are delineated on the basis of predefined attributes and are typically validated with in-situ field surveys. During the in-situ surveys, biological assessment and characterization of the project area habitats are incorporated into the project geodatabase. Our professionals understand that precise mapping of benthic habitats is essential for developing management strategies that balance the protection of these habitats with their use.
